Malta
Malta is an EU and Schengen member that uses the euro. Most skilled non-EU workers come on a Single Permit, with faster tracks for higher earners: the Key Employee Initiative, the Specialist Employee Initiative and the EU Blue Card.

Renting in Malta — Expat Housing Guide
Private residential leases in Malta must be registered with the Housing Authority by the landlord within 30 days of the lease starting; an unregistered lease is void. The rents below are medians of registered leases for H1 2026 by locality and number of bedrooms (Housing Authority Rent Calculator), not asking prices from listing sites. Across Malta and Gozo, the middle half of whole-dwelling leases registered in the second half of 2025 had a monthly rent of 800–1,300 euro.
Median rent of registered leases by locality (H1 2026)
Median monthly rent of registered apartment leases, by locality and number of bedrooms. These are whole-locality medians from the Housing Authority’s Rent Registry, not city-centre or asking-price figures.
Source: Housing Authority Rent Calculator (H1 2026), built from registered private residential lease contracts for apartments (flats). Settily reads the medians from the calculator by hand, so they update when the Authority publishes the next half-year.
