FAQ — Citizenship

Can I keep my original nationality?
Italian law lets you keep Italian citizenship alongside another one. Whether you keep your current nationality depends on your home country’s rules.
Has citizenship law changed recently?
Yes. D.L. 36/2025 (L. 74/2025) restricted citizenship by descent; this does not change citizenship by residence. Separately, the Constitutional Court ruling 25/2025 requires applicants with serious, certified learning limitations to be exempted from the language test.
